Tom Armitage

Senior Technical Copywriter

Tom has been teaching, writing, and talking about maps for over 20 years, working on web mapping services before Google Maps existed! His passion has always been sharing the power, beauty, and usefulness of maps and spatial data. He is a charter member of OSGeo, standing on the committee of OSGeo UK and chairing the FOSS4GUK 2019 conference.

As a self-confessed map nerd, his office is full of atlases, cartography books, and paper maps which come in handy when planning the next hike or dog walk in the Scottish Highlands.

Tom is also an honorary fellow of the University of Edinburgh’s School of Geosciences, where every year, he helps shape the next generation of geospatial enthusiasts.
